The Lockdown Collection is an art initiative co-founded by MRS WOOLF in 2020 to capture South Africa’s historic Covid-19 Lockdown and support vulnerable artists.

Along with Sirdar and Artist Proof Studio, MRS WOOLF developed the full concept, branding and design communication for TLC within 48 hours, just in time to launch the first collection on day one of the South African lockdown.

This original collection of 21 artworks was sold in an online virtual white glove auction hosted by TLC and ASPIRE Art, which raised over R2, 000, 000 for vulnerable artists in SA.

To ensure that The Vulnerable Artist Fund was sustainable to keep supporting artists in South Africa, TLC has since launched another two additional collections: TLC Extension Collection and TLC Student Collection.

The Lockdown Collection

The Lockdown Collection is a new charitable initiative aimed at capturing the extraordinary time in the South African history and raising much needed funds for artists and the broader community as a result of the ripple effect of COVID-19. 

It was created to immediately and sustainably assist the art community during the lockdown period in South Africa.

The artists’ works not only have an opportunity to record this extraordinary time, but also to inspire the country with their visual voices and encourage those that can buy works, to support those that need it most.

TLC Extension Collection

The incredible support for #TheLockdownCollection campaign created a powerful movement within the arts community and had artists reach out wanting to support the initiative. 

The Extension Collection’s curator, Gordon Froud, reached out to artists across SA, including those who had expressed an interest to contribute, inviting them to participate and reflect on life during COVID-19 through their art.

The result is a collection of 21 extraordinary works created by some of the country’s most respected artists.

TLC Student Collection

The Lockdown Collection launched the TLC Student Collection that featured works by artists from Artist Proof Studio and The University of Johannesburg. These works, created during our nationwide lockdown are a representation of this incredibly difficult time in global history.

These dynamic young artists have added their voices to the call, and shared these incredible works with the TLC Student Collection.

The works are available in 10 limited edition prints with all the proceeds going to the student artists as well as the Vulnerable Artist Fund.
